Using Detox Tea For Weight Loss

By Steven Wallace

People are very interested in feeling and looking better, especially around the New Yea when resolutions are made. Losing weight is a popular goal. Using detox tea for weight loss can be a step in the right direction. However, care should be taken before taking even natural remedies. Knowing more about the herbs in teas like this is essential to a safe and effective process.

Herbs are strong medicine, but they have been used for centuries and their properties are well-established and often validated by modern research. However, their use with prescription drugs (a relatively recent development) is less well-known. Care must be taken when combining pharmaceuticals and herbals.

A detox formula will be a cleansing one. However, there are cleansing herbs and then there are others which are mainly laxatives or diuretics. The latter are best used occasionally and for short periods of time. Check each formula for herbs which are classified as purifying, laxative, diuretic, or perhaps mainly added for flavor. You will find that many herbs are commonly included, while others may be unique to a particular brand.

Purifying herbs include burdock, which is a blood cleanser and skin tonic. Dandelion is another well-know plant; research shows that it has beneficial actions on the liver and kidneys, as well as on intestinal health. Milk thistle helps detoxify and heal the liver; it also aids digestion.

These nutritive herbs also have diuretic and laxative properties, although they are mild. However, most formulas include other diuretics like parsley and juniper. Other plants that help rid the body of fluid are lemongrass, horsetail, hawthorn, and hibiscus. Ashwagandha is a less familiar plant that helps the body function at top efficiency. Many of these herbs have shown equal effectiveness to pharmaceutical water pills.

Detox programs are often dependent on laxatives for much of their efficacy. Some mild herbs used for this purpose are cascara sagrada and senna. Fenugreek and chickweed are also in this category. Stronger herbs are rhubarb and aloe vera. If a formula causes cramping or diarrhea, it is obviously too strong. A more dilute cup of tea might work well.

Using herbs in combination is considered a good practice, as the effects of one herb can be enhanced or buffered by those of another. Anyone using detox formulas must closely monitor the results. A particular formula with several of the laxative herbs might be too strong for daily use. Similarly, too many diuretics in one product might lead to dehydration, which is already a common problem for many.

Other common herbs found in these formulas are ginger and peppermint, as well as fennel or licorice. These are usually added for flavor and aroma, but also for their beneficial effects on digestion. Proper digestion and elimination are both valuable in any weight control program. Using a cleansing tea can help you to your ideal weight in a sensible and healthy way.

Enjoy A Horse Performance In A Show Or At The Racetrack

By Essie Craft Riding or watching this magnificent animal is such a pleasure. It captures the hearts of a crowd to witness a horse performance of any kind. Being a spectator or holding out a hand to offer a treat will always create a wonderful memory. There are variations but the two basic types of riding are English and Western. This refers to the tack that is used, the saddle and bridle. For the English riding and jumping events, a flat saddle and bridle with double reins are used. The rider controls the animal holding the reins in two hands. Small water obstacles, brick walls and fences set up in different sequences are used in jumping competitions. In a Western show you will see the rider take the steed around the cloverleaf pattern in the barrel race or weave between the poles in the pole bending event. The Western saddle is bulkier. The saddle horn at the front is where the old time ranch hands tied their ropes as they lassoed calves for branding. In a rodeo the c...
