Understanding The Concept Of Contemporary Psychoanalysis

By Kerri Stout

Life is not always a bed of roses and this means that situations that cause us pain happen more often than we would like. However, not all is lost with the existence of contemporary psychoanalysis. This modern therapy serves to help us deal with situations that bring us down. These issues affect our lives in one way or another and if not properly dealt with may have devastating effects.

The psychoanalysis field has been changing in the past years with incorporation of different fields and works of different scholars. Sigmund Freud was the first scholar to deal with psychoanalysis and is thus usually referred to as the father for this branch of human life. The modern psychoanalysis field deals with self-purpose building, boosting personal growth, giving a pathway to emotional healing and giving a chance for the building of wonderful relationships be it with our neighbors and friends or the entire world.

This modern field gives much importance to the perspective and experiences of the individual client which are unique and quite subjective. Traditional types of analysis only considered what the psychoanalyst brought forward as the gospel truth. In this new method the analyst and the client work hand in hand through the healing process and help the client understand and give meaning to life through collaboration with the analyst and possibly other people.

It helps people to understand themselves and the world at large with an understanding on one's life, its meaning and what it means to people around them for better relationships. Many approaches are borrowed from other field to this one for the betterment of the client. Dialogue between the patient and the psychoanalyst should exist and be a healthy one for a holistic therapy focusing on present as well as past experiences.

A combination of approaches is then used to give the client the best healing process. The fact that the process takes into consideration all the different aspects of life and makes use of both the present and past experiences, make it an all-inclusive field. This gives better effects and the healing process will be a journey with no turning back.

Some analysts also provide written materials or videos for their clients to help them. These contain advice on how to manage several aspects of their life. It may also cover topics like how to pull through out of emotionally draining experiences. The material is helpful in cases where the client cannot make frequent sessions or just to add onto the knowledge gained from consultation sessions.

There are other materials provided by some analyst to enable a faster healing process. Books and videos offering advice and the different ways of dealing with certain issues may be offered for the benefit of the client. These materials are also important to clients who only manage very few hours of sessions due to busy schedules or to emphasize on the lessons learnt from the personal sessions.

Looking for an analyst need not be a very tasking affair. Their training and skills, level of experiences and membership in psychoanalyst movements need be considered. In addition referrals and testimonies from other people who have dealt with them are important. Life may not always work out as expected. Pain may be inevitable and may be for prolonged durations of time. The effects of this pain may be untold but with modern psychoanalysis the problems should be easily solved.

They and their children are suddenly faced with the task of determining how to accomplish providing assistance without considering institutionalization. Many have found a non medical home care agency to be the answer to the dilemma they face.
