The jobs you apply for after being certified will entail drawing blood and storing it and other specimens. These tests are ordered by a physician or other licensed health care provider. You will place specimens in tubes and put a label on each tube.

After passing the final exam, you will have the option of taking another exam called the National Certification test. This will greatly enhance your appeal to an employer. You will know anatomy and physiology and have an understanding of legal implications surrounding phlebotomy.

Competency checklists, textbooks and lectures given by a Red Cross certified instructor are what prepare the student to work in this field. Learning is done in laboratories as well as classroom settings.
